| I'm not trying to start anything with this...just bringing it up where SQ people can chime in... There are only a few of our crowd represented on this forum and the forum is not good enough for advertisement and etc. We all know that. I would like to know how much time we need between USACi Finals and MECA Finals (10/16/2010...Lebanon,TN). I can tell you if it's too close of a date, competitors will have to choose. I just want to see feed back. Jorge is Team coordinator for USACi for Team Hybrids...so that is his call, but I know we have a few guys that will have to pick if they are a week apart. I know of another Team in this predicament as well. They will have to choose if a week apart....even the manufacturer support side of things. I understand everyone trying to be all secretive and show up...but if we want to see SQ grow or just continue, I think feedback is important. So...speak up.... | |

| Our Team is possibly in the same predicament too. I am qualified for both finals...well will be qualified by August for MECA...
I want to make both, mainly cause I have invested time in both to make it worth my while.

| I have a question, finals for both is in October can people not plan to do both? I know it sucks being back 2 back but there is plenty of time in my opinion to save up and do both I mean it is May now that is 5 months away. Try not to trash me too much just a question. | |

| I definitely see John and Jame's point. It can be done....and it is certainly better than having them on the same weekend. | |

| I've done both when they were on back to back weekends.
The money is not THAT bad to save up and do it. Don't get me wrong it is expensive. You are talking two entry fees and 6 days of hotels, plus travel. Finals always cost more than you expect. ALWAYS. So having two back to back is expensive.
It is the time off work though that made it the most difficult for me. MECA finals was 4 hours from me. USACi was 8 or 9 hours from me (these are one way times). Because it is Finals you end up taking off that Friday and Monday from work. Doing that over two different weeks is hard to do. You have no choice because awards are rarely given out from finals in enough time to drive home safely. I've done it a few times, but it isn't safe. Friday you need the time to get there, get set up, and retune because you freak out, then go back to your original tune after the freak out passes.
I'm in a more fortunate place than a lot of people. I don't have "vacation time" or any set amount time that I'm limited to taking off. I take what I need/want. However, I have clients and work to do. Being gone that much in a short period of time is HARD. Work doesn't get done if I'm not here, and my clients are not that passionate about my hobbies.
Then you turn around within a month and you are into Thanksgiving and then christmas. Family expects you to be there. Work is starting to build up at this point.
No amount of dedication to a hobby/sport/passion is going to take the place of someone's job. Especially in this economy.
separating them by more time is helpful. Combining the finals would be most helpful. Doing what Gary suggested and having finals at the end of the summer would be good. That would spread stuff out. IASCA's only show in March, USACi finals in August, MECA's finals in October.
This is purely from the SQ side. You have to look at DB Drag though. Whatever it is they are going to do. It all has to work together for it to work right.
combine finals. /pipe dream

| It is again scheduled on the M*C* Finals weekend. I understand how it happened but now people will have to choose that do multi. orgs.
It would be easier for me to make the USACi finals as it is closer.
However, I would also like to check out/compete at the M*C* finals.

| We did everything we could to get a different weekend but it was not possible. We even offered to bribe people with other dates to switch but with no luck (offered to pay their rent!). Called and spoke with Steve at MECA. He said it would not make a difference to them or hurt their finals and he gave his blessing (no kidding!). We offered to pay for his rent for his building in TN 100% if he could move a week earlier or later but he declined.
We are doing a three year contract and will have at least two or three weeks in between the finals for 2011. We want all our memebers to ahve the opportunity to compete in as many shows and as many finals as they wish.
I hope our members will understand. Shreveport looks to be a really good deal for USACI and we cannot pass on it due to dates.

I will go where my team goes. I will be in Shreveport for finals.
It is just disappointing overall.

Shreveport is the best option for its casinos and large lakes and from Mexico driving my car in just 10 hours away
