| Is there a big difference between companies on wire. Stinger is fairly high priced, compared to Cadence, or some off brands. Has anyone seen a big difference in performance?? I'm looking at cadence wire-does anyone know of a better/cost effective product?
Thanks

| there were tests done in db drag racing a few years back comparing kicker 0awg to an off brand 0awg and the wattage achieved with the kicker wire with a 2000 watt amp was a couple hundred watts more. | |

| I'll be running 5000 RMS, and planning on running 2 runs of 0 gauge from car battery to additional batteries with CCA wire. Will be running 1 run of OFC 0 gauge Stinger wire from batts to amps(shorter run).
The way I read it, I could probably get by with 1 run of OFC from kicker or stinger, but would cost more than 2 runs of cheaper 0 gauge.
I'm going to check in on welding cable tomorrow to see what they have around here. I've got plenty of room for wire, so could go about any way.

| my 2 cents is yes, working with electronic everyday and using multiple brands of wiring, i have seen whats to be considered a better wire than others. I knows its a PITA but you can get a pair of calipers, measure a single strand, find the cross section, and count the strands. You can use a wire calculator to find the true AWG wire size. i have seen some 8 awg wire "appear" to be larger in diameter (conductor not insulation) than others. Does this mean better? no, not really.... when a single strand conductor is smaller in diameter, you can more tightly fit strands into the same confined space as would be able to a larger diameter strand, meaning more surface area, and less air gap between the individually packed conductors. Sometimes a wire manufacturer will give a datasheet .pdf, or just state the strand count. Most automotive and car audio grade wire, does have a high strand count.. some higher than others. ex, you may have some highly flexible kicker brand wire, this wire may have somewhere i the neighborhood of 1200-1400 strands, while a cheaper wire like jsc or stinger, may only have 800-1000 strands ( not as densely packed). I have actually taken some Claimed to be 8 awg wire and once actually measured... oopps.. was only really 9 awg. A good brand will beef it up a little and be on the verge of breaking into a 7 awg rated size. Beware some no name brand ebay wiring kits, i installed a setup for one of my friends recently who bought an ebay 8 awg kit, i had never even heard of the brand, well his 8 awg should have really been marked as 10 awg.. it was the most pitiful looking 8 AWG (wannabe) i had ever seen. | |
