| but has anyone actaully just tried to copy a box that works with just some normal 3/4 ply wood? ive been building with mdf and birch so long that i couldnt tell ya if there is a difference or not. most boxes get doubly layer or resin inside anyway, so in this case i wonder how just some plywood would work out. i thought about this cause i was using some new stuff called arrcura ply or somthingthing like that. its a slightly cheaper alternative to the nice marine birch. seems to be pretty nice. | |

| Yea! The thing I like most is the birch holds up to mounting and re mounting. The plastic laminated ac ply is great aswell! | |

| I've wanted to do boxes out of 100%, well 99% steel for sometime now, but no equipment or most of all, not enough money for that. |

| Well Alan its like this on the plywood question...
In the late 80's that is all we used was plywood we didn't know any different but we did multy layer it to make it stronger it always worked very well thats how box building started was with plywood then partical board the mdf i remember when i used to laugh when a customer ask for mdf then i built my first box with it and heard what bass what supposed to sound like.....
And another example is look up the SPL portion of the scoresheets from finals say 94 LOL and look at the numbers now ANY QUESTIONS????? Dont use plywood it will be a waste of your time unless you just wanna prove you can make it work than go for it your knowledge back then woulda been helpful so you can do well with it but it will take you three times as long to build cause of the layers you would need to do.....
Hope that helps | |

| spax has a screw that you dont have to predrill mdf ? hmm, seems to good to be true. have to hunt them down. i think im just going to hunt down more the AC exterior ply. its like birch but a little cheaper. i did one out of it yesterday. seems like good stuff . cuts build time waaay down. and no hassile with predrill bits breaking and needing two drills etc. major pain when im building alone..im building a whole van from it for finals too | |

| so i just put my battery box together with the spax screws and work pretty good not the easiest to get started but def alot quicker then predrilling and only split i seen was where i had 2 screws cross each other! oops but even when the were within a inch of the edge wood did not split and sunk real nice but def make sure you have the right size bit i had 1 size down of phillips and it was stripping them but as soon as i switched to the right bit didnt happen again!! ill take some pics of the box when done!! | |
