| I wouldn't pull more than 9k behind a 5.3 1/2 ton. The brakes on a 2500 and the 6.0 are freaking amazing. But the 1/2 ton would get it done if you are under 9K. If you are towing on the truck max capacity, go to a 2500. You'll need load levelers for sure on a 1500 with more than 7Klbs. | |

| if its the 1500hd you MIGHT be ok, I strongly suggested the 3/4 ton regardless of brand.
1/2 ton regardless of towing capacity if it is an automatic has an anemic transmission and the rear dif isnt something to brag about either, it might be more money up front but in the long run will save you.

| ^^^^What he said.
I've got a Silverado 1500HD, and until I got a gooseneck hitch put in, it still sucked doing a bumper pull. 6.0L, 4L80E Tranny, HD rear end with 3.73s. If the Chevy is what youa re looking at, the 1500HD is the same everything as the 2500HD, except for the front suspension, because the bigger heavier motors are not an option. But mine has 130K on it, and it still pulls weight around pretty well. My trailer weighs about 3500lbs., and my van weighed in right under 15K. Max tow weight for it was supposed to be 9600lbs.

| if its the powerstroke 6.0 have fun with it kicking down to passing gear every 20 seconds.. we pulled a 48 foot fithwheel from here to austin a couple years ago with 2 crx's and an s10 on the back with a 01 dodge 1 ton @ 80mph in 6th gear alot of the way. it did alot better then my 7.3 f250 did with just the trailor | |

| yup...4L80 is an awesome tranny. If you get the 4.10 rear it will kick down frequently. But it'll pull a house. | |

| Diesel 1 ton dual rear wheels. After 25+ years towing a trailer, would never tow with anything less. Never anything less. | |

make sure you have the proper load rating on the tires. and maybe look into 2 5500 lbs axles instead of teh 3500's you have now.
