no gain opening doors?

Im new to usac, Why would i not gain even a tenth by opening the door. it is a walled off van with 4 18's . but should gain a lil bit. any one have any thoughts?

I don't know much, but I think it is the way the vans build pressure. Also some vans lose control of the subs when door opens. I think it has to do with pressure on both sides of subs.

I lose opening doors in my Explorer

I gain maybe .2 to .5 opening a window in my van. Thats at the dash. In the kick I haven't tried sealed and open yet.

no thoughts on why it doesnt or things to try to get it to gain?

if your ported box is starving for air it will gain by opening a door or window etc. my geuss is your box and or port is not big eneugh for your subs

Maybe urs is just like Explorers....they like to be sealed when in the kick or anywhere for that matter


You try drivers kick vs pass kick?

Im about 2 - 2.5 up from pass kick to drivers

I have herd of other people with walls talk about this but don't have any thing to back it up.

If your box volume is close to the size of your cabin volume and your port is tuned for the volume in your cabin your cabin will work as the box and exhaust into the box. Suposed to work great for sealed and drop off if anything is opened.
They also talked about burping at a diferent freq with doors open. One that would be right for box volume instead of cabin.

So What Your Saying Is I Have 4 15's And When I Open My Door I Gain 1.7 Dbs. I Need A Bigger Box Its 20 Cubic Feet Now How Much Bigger Do I Have To Go?

yes , you need a much bigger box ! lol Ace is pretty much correct . if the sub box is close to cab size , you don't gain ,or you don't gain much with the door open . the seats in and out also are a factor .

From the dash to the kick I gain 1.4 . If I open my door I dont gain all that much , but if I keep it sealed I gain the 1.4 .

I always figured it has a lot to do with the note played...we all know lower notes need more length than higher notes. I guess I said that right. I actually have not tested sealed up in the kick vs door open in a while. I have seen alot of suv's not gain with the doors open but this is with the box in the cargo area and no wall.

I never tried opening the doors, but i gained some with windows down in the kick.

Didn't gain any on the dash windows down though.

i went threw and played all diff notes no change from door open to closed exact same score. with 2 18's i finished up the season doing 158.1 all sealed up and at the dash, and a 160.0 sealed in the kick. End of the year 56 hrz 26 qu ft box with allmost 800 sq in of port. van is tore dwn now but only thing i could think, is if box was larger than cabin but i think 13 qube per 18 was enuff with over 7k on each woofer on 12v.

I had a great year and tons of fun in with the guys in wisconsin and the guys in midwestspl.
