Any eagle talon knowledge?

HELP.... I have a short that is causing my dash lights and tail lights to blow the fuse. they are on the same fuse under the hood. I have a 1991 eagle talon tsi awd turbo. i am getting a puff of smoke from behind the cluster above the radio. but i dont know why it would be there since ive done no wiring there but hey stuff happens right. What i am hoping for is some shop owner out there may have software that would bring up wiring and let me know if whats back there. I am asking for help sincerely since this is my daily driver and my comp car. And that fact there is a big comp in omaha in two weeks i have to get to. I am just hoping someone may have had this problem and may know what to do to fix it. please email me here or at jason_hahn@mchsi.com. thank you guys so much.

lol yea dammmit i could really use the insight.

I had a similar problem with mine. it turned out to be a light socket has a small section of exposed wire and it was melting together everytime i put a fuse in. trying to remeber off the top of my head at 1:00 am but the tail light/dash light underhood fuse also runs the front bumper lenses as well as all the interior lights for the gauges. if your seeing smoke from above the radio I'd say its maybe one of the small light sockets for the climate controls or the couple misc buttons that light up around there. since your sure it isn't in the radio wireing.

thanks a bunch but do you know how to pull that section of dash off. in my stereo install we just pulled the radio out. you have no idea how frustrating this thing is i have had almost everything go wrong in the last few weeks and it has cost me time and money. i am going insane.

lemme look and see if i can find out how. you have a 1g and i have a 2g so I doubt they come apart the same way.

and as far as everything breaking welcome to a dsm

you know i have always wondered what that stood for.

from the looks of it the bezel for the radio just hooks in with clips so it should pop out with a screw driver

as far as how the rest comes apart to get to the climate controls i can't say right off. looks like that top vent should just pop out too it might give you a look on top of the climate controls and see if you can see anything burnt. but i'd start behind the radio and bottom of climate controls area. you should be able to access most the wires from that hole.

well thanks for the good news. lol well i am not sure but mine does not have any problems unless i have the fuse in the holder. i only drive it during the day and dont put the fuse in. so i have two fail safes. one it only happens when i turn the lights on and when i have the fuse in there. thanks for the advice and i will throw a extinguisher there just to be safe.

This sounds so much like a dimmer or illumination wire that has been used for the ground on a radio. When the lights are off the wire tests as ground. When the lights are on it tests as positive.
The radio will blow the fuse and continue to work but, not the lights.

perhaps an illumination wire not hooked up that has finally made its way to touching a ground
