| In the past, i have made "attempts" to have quality sound, but fact is i am an spl guy. I have had (in hopes these would sound great, and some did) Crossfire BMF components RF 3-way components MB Quart Discuss components MB Quart QM Components (yes from 97') etc, etc. Now, i am putting together a setup where i will only be running my coaxiles ( i know you guys hate those ) on my hu power, and wanted opinions on an okay set that provided decent quality for the "non sq" competitor. I have looked at coax's by memphis, morel, rainbox, cdt, focal, etc.. and i wanted to know what you guys think is a good set of coax's. | |

| for what you want i would get the focal or get you some infinity or some boston acoustics.. Image dynamics still makes a good coax also... I know your trying to keep it simple... | |

| Hybrid Audio Clarus. Illusion Audio is coming back with a great coincidentally mounted driver. Focal Access coax.
Whatever your ear likes is best. Go listen to some stuff first. Also, you can get a nice component set and make a bridge for the tweeter easily. most if not all will sound much better with an amp.

| all depends on what your wanting to spend...... Hybrid is $$$$
I do agree Jsketoe that most all sound better with an amp... just sounds like he is trying to get good sound for a reasonable price..

| Well i'm trying to avoid using an amp because i compete in spl and i'm being stingy with my power for my sub amp, plus limited on space in a single cab truck. I have always loved the way my previous components sounded on an amp, but i will deal with having weak sound. Factory locations in my truck are 6.5's in doors and 4x6's in b-pillars (less than a ft from my head), so i do not have to have anything too tremendous in that truck. | |

| put a cheap componet set up front man driven off the head unit... shut the 4x6's down they are too much blaring at the ear.... still will sound good and clear with componets instead of coax up front and know what you mean about keeping the wattage down..
150 dollar componet set Pioneer TS 1720C 6.75 driver... clear and smooth sounding and not the tinny tweeter sound like the others of equal price... its what I run in my SQ truck and still get good marks with em..

| hmm.. right now i have the fader to the front some so that the 4x6's are not overbearing. If i was to shut the 4x6's down, i would just run the rear channel signals to the doors also and bi-amp the components so to speak, that way all my power goes to the comp set. | |

| I thought about installing some drivers on the A-pillar.. they have a high arch profile to them, i would have to do quite a bit of customizing to them to make speakers work there. Have any pics of them when you had the truck? | |

| look into the new micro class d amps by RF, Arc, etc...easily stowed in a glovebox or in the dash...that would give you front stage power and be better than head unit power. | |

| Seen a lot of guys setup their amps so they can be easily removed for spl comps as to not change power classes. Custom center consoles where an amp sits inside/amp in the glove box/ect, just depends on the vehicle. I used to run deck power, but after running off amps, I have a hard time going back, just sounds better.
As far as $$$'s, rockford has some very small, very nice old amps also. I have several that I use on my non comp vehicles. Can pick them up on ebay for under 50$. They are very compact.
As far as speakers, I'd have to default to the other guys, I have just started looking at components the last few weeks for my new setup, and I'm still looking at several brands-can't recommend one over the other as I haven't tested them yet.

| Yea i thought about dropping in an amp and removing it for comps.. but i have never had a judge check my amps anyways, so its not like it would ever matter. Yes i agree, anytime i had amp power on my speakers they dominated hu powered speakers, the sound of speakers with power without all the fatigue and distortion is nice! I may find me a small amp and do this because right now my coax's can't keep up with the sub. | |

| I haven't a clue, i am supposed to go to the show in belle rose this weekend. They reduced the chance of rain some but we will see. I currently don't have any known plans for heading up to jackson until the annual show around september, but hopefully it won't be that long. | |

| I started out building sq setups way back when. Been thinking about piddling with it again. My colorado is getting a little more front stage soon so who knows i may run sq instead of spl. | |

It would be nice to have you back in the lanes. SQ rules allow you to play with power and SPL again these days.
