anyone know how the kinetik charger recondition mode works

Anyone know how it works, I have 2 bad batts from my camper, the are deep cycle, the kind you can add water to. They worked ok, not great all summer, I didn't ever check voltage on them since they operated the landing gear and slideouts ok all year. Well this fall they quit working, no big deal I got the camper winterized and just threw a kinetk 2400 in there to get everything closed up.

Well I brought the batts home and they were both at 4v. I checked the fluid and they are both low, I had to add about 3/4 gallon water to the one and now I'm trying to recondition it.

When i put it on the small yellow kinetik charger it wouldn't work, either regular charge mode, or recondition, so i took this other small charger i had and put in on it for a few minute, at first the 12v setting wouldnt work, so i used the 6v setting to get it up to 10, then the 12v setting to get it up to 12.

Then i switched back to the kinetik and put it on the reconditon setting. I have used this on a kinetik batt before and it simply just charged it for like 24 hours and it was done.

On this particular interstate deep cycle it has taken it down to .97 right now, so is this right, is it suppose to take it doen to near 0 then bring it back up, it has been on there about 17 hours right now.

Anyone know?

DC motors can operate at low volts (a starter can turn over on 9 or 10V when it has to). Dropping to < 1 V is not normal though.

You did the right thing by slowly bumping up the charging voltage. Once they're fully charged, let them rest a while, and test their voltage. If they hold a charge, do a load test to make sure the internals are still in good shape. Even if they're dead, it sounds like you got a few years out of them. Interstate bats have always been good to me.

I killed 6 kinetik 16 volt batts, they went down to .04 volts. I was told there was nothing I could do to bring them back to life. I was determined to bring them back to life so I put all six together and put a motorcycle trickle charger and it took 2 months for one to come back to life. Then another one took 2 months, then one only took 3 weeks. But the last 3 won't come back to life. They are stuck on 8 volts. Sorry for hijacking your thread, but you might want to try a trickle charger, I think it puts out .2 volts.

The 5 16V Kinetiks I have now were down to 0.0 or close to it. What I did was jolt the crap out of them with a 24 volt charger numerous days. They all work fine now. They aren't like new but they sit over 16.8 now.

Basically reconditioning is usually a pulse charge. Charge/discharge repetitively.
