| On my Alpine, it doesn't matter what the output of the head is since I am running fiber and using the D/A converters in the 701. MUCH cleaner signal that way since you're not converting it from digital to analog back to digital and then back to analog again between the head and the processor and the amps. I'm also running Alpine amps so the 701 is already gain matched (essentially) to the amps by design!! (werd) _________________ Tim! Webmaster at Large NW AR

| If U look back at competitors in the old days, let's say 1997,98,99, head units only made 10% big deal out of the whole installation. It was all about safety issues, wiring(which was very important),and imaging speakers in the right location. Today it seems that some wannabee sq competitors think that expensive and outragous headunits make a difference if u win or lose. Wiring is still important today like it was back in the days.Speaker placement is also important than everything else. I've seen competitors using crappy headunits like fosgate and still win top places in the industry.Fancy tv's and remote controls were not available back then. What difference would that make. Ask people like Mark Fukada, Alma Gates, Gary Biggs, Steve Brown, they will tell U to go back to basics. K--keep I--it S--simple S--stupid |

| Well think about it this way. It all starts from where the signal originates. If you have a crappy signal it will remain crappy so to speak. Not that spending lots of money is going to allow you a victory. Most of it is an ego thing another part is one feels that they are getting the best signal possible. Now if a cheaper HU did what some of the more expensive ones did dont you think more would use them. I am also sure that most of the big dawg in comp today and of yesterday were running high end hu. |
