| can anyone explain the Spider theory.. why DD uses such a small spider like 7.6
and Ti uses a 10in.
which is better and why? I know the 10 in has more throw. but apparently that doesnt matter. especially cuz DD is a well known SPL sub. |

| Spiders are used for cone control (stiffness). But, they have to be able to handle the excursion of the sub. 7.6" spider might be all they need to get full excursion. | |

| I have heard with a big dia. spider you lose control over the cone and get more coil rocking....DDs coil gap is one of the tightest around so this I think is the main reason they stick to a smaller spider. It still allows the sub to have plenty of excursion but we all know having alot of excursion doesnt make a sub hit hard or get loud. | |

| most of the time we are playing such a high note that we arent pushing excursion limits unless there is a loading issue. usch as in gregs van. somewhere like this is where have a larger spider like a tsns has would crutch his problem. but those woofers all use larger spiders because they have a larger coil.. if you look at older trf woofers with a 8inch spider and a 4inch coil it looks funny because so much of the spider is taken up buy the coil.. so they run a bigger one. | |
