I ran across this sub, in the never-ending quest for cheap awesomeness. The specs seem to good to be true... and since it's Boss, the probability of spontaneous combustion is pretty high.

Boss LAC128D
3" aluminum voice coil (dual 4)
200 oz "magnet structure"
800/1600 rms/peak watts
96dB sensitivity
~$75 new

Anyone have experience?

Looks like the same sub as planet audios apocalipse 12 or AP12 (boss, planet same company) the sub looks exactly along the same desighn. Ap subs are pretty decent, djtrinity on here had 4 12s in a weird homemade box tuned to 35htz and it did a 145...not a impressive number but the box was tuned to low.

Thanks for the responses. It's not going to win any awards, but it does seem like a possible "flank steak" of car audio. Dirt cheap, and with some added work, could still be pretty tasty.

This (or a similar sub) may be a fun SB1 project for the summer. With one 12 and enough power to blow it... see how many dBs it can take before the magic smoke fairy comes to visit.

note: the sensitivity isn't really 96 (as advertised on the box) Sonic Electronix has 89 dB/w-m which is more reasonable.
