| Had a weird situation during tuning recently, and thought I'd ask the gurus of Street Beat.
With the current configuration, the RAV (5-door) metered better with the back door windows down, and the front windows up. (by like 2dB over sealed)
I think there's a rule about keeping the mic-side front window up... or something like that. What about back windows?
Thanks, Chris | |

| Gracias, Senor!
I'm sure it would be fun to be loud, and showoff... but I get the feeling this is happening due to a bad box design that doesn't allow efficient air flow. I went to a bigger box volume and port area, and it doesn't peak smoothly. Probably too big. | |

| Yaes! My name is-a Borat... and I is new to competing with the speakers. From my experience, sealed has been louder in almost every iteration of my setup. I've been told that most systems with modest power and air movement tend to do better sealed. No doubt that for high-power, super-wangin' systems, open windows and doors has been proven to work. My best guess is that unloading the opposite corner allows better air movement, which prevents loading in unnecessary (non-mic'd) places. My theory is that it allows more cone movement, lower impedance rise, less CD player skippage, and CAN give better scores. To me, it's always been another "degree of freedom" during test-n-tune, but until now, has never given positive results. Can you or any of the other vets help clarify the whole theory of windows? It's pretty abstract to me, and probably others. | |
