Subject: Alpine Type X!!?? Wed Nov 26, 2008 12:31 pm
I have one 1243d Type x running on a Alpine mrd-m1000. I first had it in a 1.25 cubic sealed box, the rubber surround came loose and I repaired it. I have have also caused a slit in the rubber which leaves room for less movement. Guess I'm going ported. I was thinking 3 cubic ft tuned at 31hz. Any ideas on a box, or somthing flexable enough to stay stuck to the rubber when the sub is doing a lot of moving?

No idea, just try it. And tell us.
Smaller Box too.....and if you want higher pressure tune higher.

I cut the rubber surround with a razor about 1 inch. I tryed to put sylicone on it but in a sealed box it moves so much it pops the sylicone off, because it don't strech with the rubber. In a ported box it will have less movement and the sylicone won't need to stretch

Try urethane (the kind they use to install windshields). The sub will move in and out more at a lower frequency, at a higher frequency it will move faster but not as far. Actually the surround will rip or blowout easier on the same power in a ported box because it does not have as much stopping it.
