Joint Finals a success. USACI numbers down due to very remote (from USACI) location but better than expected. Results posted on web site.

PostSubject: battery type   battery - battery type Icon_minitimeThu Jul 26, 2007 6:29 pm

Hey there everyone.

Hopin someone can help me out. I have had a terrible time keeping my voltage up in street beat. I'm looking to add more battery power. Any suggestions on what would work best.
Right now I'm running off one stinger sp1000 and a 200 amp alt.
It will run the 30 sec. now, but I just added a second amp.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Why not just a regular "bigger" battery like a Stinger 2150, NSB90, Optima Group 31, etc

when it comes to street beat ... quantity counts on batteries

No offence Leonard though, but caps don't do anything for street beat.

I will be running them both at 1/2 ohm.

With the space requirement in the engine comp., the sp1000 is as big as I can go there, but one of the above batteries can be added in back. I have space for 2 large ones without redesigning the whole setup. If 2 will not work, I may be in trouble.

I will check them out and see if one more will work.

Thanks for the help

right, i never have any problems running 4k plus watts with a autozone batt under the hood and just a one farad cap stock alt?

many people never let there stock charging systems catch up, you cannot go to a show play your system before your run have ac going and expect your battery to keep up, adding a second battery does no good if you never have full charges on them.

the night before a show i always charge on the charger to have full reserve power, caps or cheap takes no space or adds weight and does just fine and are over looked there are Brand X guys using them hitting mad numbers, and i have seen nothing but raves on the new hybid caps?

keep in mind how many years the cap has been around over twenty in car audio if they don't work why do they still sell to this day?

This is the spec for the 2500D
1 X 1200 @ 4 Ohm
1 X 1700 @ 2 Ohm
1 X 2500 @ 1 Ohm

Now that is for each one. U will be running them at .05 ohms. These amps are power hungry. You will need lots of Battery.

Well yea but still never tested that theory...maybe now would be a good time to see since those caps have been in my room for over a year now Wink

Also, I'd have to agree that the additional batteries would help much more in Street beat than adding capacitors. Quad did make a good point in one manner though, even with the additional batteries and 200 amp alternator I would recommend charging the batteries with a battery charger over night and again right before your run for best results. Since you have the SP1000 under the hood I would recommend a pair of 2150's for the rear. There are different charging methods for each battery type but the powermaster charger is probably your best bet for long life and a good charge on your batteries. The intellichargers will give longer life to your batteries and charge them properly without worry. If you know what you're doing you can use a manual charger and make it work but having one of the microprocessor controlled chargers is much easier. Good luck.

is it really worth upgrading your alternator cause this dealer that sells them told me that the alternator only gives out its high amperage at a high rpm and when you do your run the car is only idleing at 1200

Get one with an external voltage regulator.

It depends on how the alternator is built. I am far from an alternator expert, but I've been told by several that you can have the alternator built to perform at 'idle' or higher rpm(as most are). You can also use an overdrive pulley to increase the relative rpm of the alternator in comparison to the engine.

As for caps...................................
For 400 amps of current draw(roughly 4000 watts) you would need roughly 5000 farads to start at 14.7 volts and stay above 12 volts for the entire run. I would recommend batteries as opposed to caps for street beat. I don't feel that a low esr battery has a ton to offer in this class either. You are not looking for the initial burst of energy, but rather the reserve that your battery bank has. The only advantage to a low ESR battery that I can see is that most are AGM design and thus are sealed and able to be mounted in any position.

depends on the application for caps......and street beat isnt a good application for it.....batteries would be the way to go for street beat.....and caps are over looked because it take tons of farads for them to be effective...............
