Sub enclosure for 2006 F350 Supercrew?

I've got a buddy wanting to put a sub in his newly aquired 2006 F350 Supercrew. He has a gently used 12" sub that he pulled out of his previous 1999 4-door F350 and he would like to use it again. His only option is to put the sub behind the back seat because he has 3 kids.

This guy lives on the opposite side of town (about 30 miles) from me so I haven't seen the truck yet. I've done some internet searching only to find enclosures for flat-style subs for this truck, similar to this one: http://www.spl2k.com/superduty112 . The old sub he has is about 5.5" deep.

Anyone have any ideas on if I can get this sub behind the seat? I was thinking about cutting a hole out in the back of the enclosure I'm building and utilizing the back of the cab (i.e. sheetmetal) as the back of the enclosure. My thought was to seal the hole with some fiberglass and add a couple of layers of deadening to that area.

My buddy said he has heard some guys on Ford forums state that you can flip the seat brackets over (or around) and get an extra inch or so of space. Anyone done this or heard of it being done?

Any ideas or pics would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Monte! Long time no see bro. Here are a few pics of the setup we've been doing in those trucks. A pair of L7 8's behiund the seat. I don't remember if yuo can get the depth and height for a 10 or 12 in that truck without doing a "flat" style sub. The Kicker CVT thin sub comes with a steel plate that has a rubber gasket to do just what you are speaking of. you simply cut a hole in the back of the enclosure to make room for the magnet and then screw on the steel plate. However the CVTs were designed with this in mind and the woofer vents in a different way than a typical sub. If the sub you are using vents through the rear of the magnet then I would not suggest choking it off in that manner.

Aww crap!!! All that and I had misread your original post. The pics are of the new 08 body style. I see your working with an 06. SORRY MAN! That's what I get for skimming. I saw "newly" and "F-350" and just assumed. LOL

Anyone else have thoughts on the subbox I described in the first post?

The guy is bringing the truck over on Saturday morning and it will be the first time I've seen the truck. I'd like to have a thought of what I'm going to do before then.

Without modifying the seat brackets, I like to do a pair of 8"s rear firing so they don't hit the seat back. Good luck getting a 12" behind that seat without messing with the brackets.

I say your only bet is gonna be cutting like you said Monte... Its actually a good idea and i hadn't thought of that yet. The only other suggestion i could say would be build a console box and i know the guy isn't gonna wanna do that .... But the only other thing is buy the probox prefab with sub from gerald it does actually sound purdy good and drops right in... Just a thought easier on you thats for sure..

But knowing you ... You will actually enjoy hacking up that truck and making something awsome... GOOD LUCK. Ill get you those specs in the morning.
