question for u guys

does anybody remember how to figure up total watts a amp is putting out i figured out my current draw off the amps...and now i cant remember the formula

amps x volts...make sure u dont peak hold...

what volts do u go by ur starting volts r enging voltage

output voltage of the amp

why not use peak hold?

they dont like to use peak hold like we do alan in fact they get straight retarded about it to the point a fight almost ensues lol

because peak hold takes the quick "spiked" voltage. if you let it burp and settle its a little more accurate but you need 2 people for that. its ussually not far off enough that its worth all the extra time to me.

I had a pretty lengthy post explaining this on the other forum but that server crashed. I'll see if I can find it in some stuff I have saved. Basic rundown though, measure the AC voltage at the output of the amplifier, clamp the positive output of the amplifier and measure AC current. The most accurate readings would be using RMS meters and reading the value off of each meter simultaneously(at the same time).

The reason for this is because a subwoofer is not purely resistive, meaning current and voltage are not in phase with each other. One will lag or lead the other by a phase angle. This also means that the peak current does not occur at the same time as the peak voltage. If you use peak hold you are multiplying two peaks that did not occur at the same time and you get a false reading. If you want more in depth discussion of it feel free to PM since everytime I bring this up I seem to ruffle feathers.

yes we know all that technical poop and i am glad you went to school for it as well, but as charlse said its not far off so why go through all the hassle for it if you chose to do it 1 way or the other it really doesnt matter cause you will get use to your method and no matter what either way if it gains watts you will see it either way

i agree with jeff on this one...is peak hold not as acc.?? yes....but i thnk if u do it one way ..keep doin it that way all of your test will be the same and u cant change and then all of your previous test will be void
