Chad has been back for like 2 years now i think.. He usually competes 2 or 3 years and goes away for a year or 2 then gets right back in the game.....

Truth be told, Chad is in hiding. Scared of Kevin.

Each branch of service is different. You are correct Jimbo Jeff might not even be home a year this time before going back and they are gone from 12-18 months, but that is the army. Some do volunteer to keep going back but most of them dont. They go when their unit comes down on orders for their rotation.

We pretty much get volunteered by the catch all phrase at the end of the Deployment Instruction, you have a nice 600 page book that tells you how everything is supposed to work, numbers, units etc etc, but to paraphrase the last paragraph of this detailed Instruction, it pretty much says, we can send you wherever we want, whenever we want and we dont even have to follow this 600 page instruction we took who knows how long to write.

the air force has a 20 month cycle, or at least that is what it's supposed to be, 4 months deployed, 16 months back, it looks good on paper, and all the generals still say it works great, yeah it works great on paper, but then when you go to attach names to those numbers on paper, they run out of names faster than they do numbers, then they start pulling people that are supposed to be on the next deployed ahead of time and it continously is out of whack. one of there key points why the system is so good, is it gives you predictability of when you will be gone, they can only pull you once in that 20 month cycle, at least thats what the intruction says, intil you get to the catch all phrase at the end and they do what they want.

in the air force times recently there was an article about deployments, and the genaral who was in charge of that stuff at the time said the system has it flaws but that it really is a great system and it's really sound, then the same paragraph goes on to say that currently 45% of the air force personnel currently deployed are on 6-12 months deployments i could'nt help but wonder, if the current system of 4 months gone, 16 months back is working so great, then why is it that almost half the people deployed can't follow that system????? how is that so great.

now a days they are looking at how many people they are going to get rid of next, but at the same time not cutting back on the amount of people deployed at any given time, so they have to scramble to fill the slots.

take my office for example, it's a very small office, 1 civilian and 5 military, one guy doesnt even work in the office, he works directly with the commander to fill a slot pretty much anyone can fill, but anyway we fill 2 differant deployment time frames in that 20 month cycle, 3 people in one timeframe and 2 in the other, well 2 people just got back. My group, the group of 3, 2 of us were supposed to go next Jan for 4 months, well now that got moved up to june for 3 people for 6 months. For manning purposes at home we are not supposed to have less than 3 people in shop at anytime, they said that even though we have 3 in that slot, they would never pull more than 2, just because of the high level visibility job we do here, it just says 3 to look good on paper. well guess what they pulled 3 this time.

And at the same time we still have to fill the possibly 3 spots next jan, but here is the big kicker. we have 5 military assigned, 3 of those are getting out of the service between now and Oct, so they do not have to deploy with me, that leaves 2 people, me and another guy that just got back, so he cannot go because he just got back, we will shortfall 2 and i will go by myself. so i have to go until dec, so after oct that leaves the 1 civilian to do the job along with the other guy who just got back that works with the commander and we are supposed to have a minimum of 3, well the guy that works with the commander will have to come back to our office, well he has never worked in our office before and since it is a side spurt of what our carreer field actually does, he has never done it before, so there will be some training that will have to be done there to get him up to speed, but when i get back in dec, there will still be that requirement of possibly 3 people that need to deploy again in jan, so that guy will have to be moved up 4-5 months earlier than scheduled now to fill that slot i was to fill originally, and we will have to shortfall the other 2 cause i will not be able to go since i just got back, so still just 2 people in the office at home at any one time, which of course means no leave too, cause otherwise who will work?

so its a never ending cycle of a broke system, and its like this in several carrer fields accross the air force, but ask the top brass how it works and they will say it works excellant, now i'm not complaining about deploying or anything like that, thats what are job is to do these days and the little bit of extra money is nice too, that part of wh i like to go when i have to, its just the system is broke and no one on top really acknowledges it or will do anything about it,

yeah right, i cant let these guys work on my car, espcially unsupervised, they might try to take it out cruising and to pick up guys in it, my car might make one show this year, but it definately wont be finals

sounds like us but with us it get a new batallion commander and he wants to deploy in search of his full bird rank so when we get a new one in we know whats up lol
