- Hey F150 guys,
The bass note is -8 to -10 dB throughout the song.
The total output level averages -8 to -5 dB. There is a LIGHT clip during each of the snare drum hit at the end of each bar. There's a strong clip during the snare roll every 16 bars.
THIS IS A WELL RECORDED TRACK. It may not be a pure tone like your SB song... and it may not be overdriven (then compressed) like Gucci, Jeezy, and every techno song ever made. The tracks offer a strong, clean signal that's recorded at the proper level. Plus, the bandwidth on the bass notes are pretty tight.
There's nothing to complain about with regard to the production or mastering. Just set your gains properly (like you would for daily, not for tones) and you'll be golden. Decaf recommends -5 dB tones for gain setting and that's just fine for this. You'll get most of your rated power when the volume knob gets into position. Those who like to go balls-deep, let it ride 1 or 2 clicks higher on the volume knob. Its not that they aren't well recorded tracks they are just not as loud as some people's old songs. My old song wasn't a straight tone but shows to be "louder" in audacity. I haven't been able to meter track 8 yet but from the feedback I feel I'll be in the same boat trying to catch 2db up. Also, where did you see -5db? In the only usable portion of the track I saw -8db.

| I agree. Most of the "normal" SB songs were bass-heavy and compressed/clipped.
For these songs, the main bass note is -8dB... but the combined level of ALL notes tended to stay within the -8 to -5 dB range during the bass sections and up to -2dB to +0 dB during the snare hits. Check out the "Output Level Meter" at the top center. It turns red when you clip and gives an indication of the total recording level.
If our CD had been produced more like Powerbox instead of Max Killa Hertz, the bass track would have been boosted 2 or 3 dB, lightly compressed, and the total level would gently clip in the same places it does now. For bassheads, an acceptable level of clip is at or just below Dr Dre - "Forgot About Dre". Anything less and you're wasting headroom.
I'll replace my earlier statement of "There's nothing wrong with the production" to "It could be better, but it will be a quality platform for SB, once people tune for it."

| lol I played that song tonight at work but the subs suck. I'm about to build two 6th orders to take care of that problem.
I noticed the snare hits clipped a little but I was expecting a little more out of the main bass line. I'm sure we'll be stuck with this production for a long time coming so we just have to deal with it and make do.

I guess bad because if its recorded way low like that that means that gains will have to be increased which may lead to more clipping of the amps and heat for the subs. When Bo ran his it didn't appear to be down at all. He was quite pleased with his score. Did he use his copy or was there a main copy to be used by directors??
