| Subject: 4 8" box for a Dodge cailber. Ideas? Sat Apr 30, 2011 12:00 pm | |
| ive got myself involved in a little bet with some people. My boss, who is a 30 SQ veteran and thinks he knows how to do spl, designed a burp box for 4 Boston G1 8's on 800 watts. the box is 10 cubic foot with around 60 inches of port and im not sure what its tuned at but i know the vehicle peaks at 43. subs and port both facing up.
my and a buddy of mine (9515rob) are out to build a much smaller box that will do some greater numbers. my idea was 2 cubic foot square with subs up and 2 4" areos out the back,
Any suggestions?

| I've tried a lot of different boxes in my caliber and the loudest setup has been either subs up port back or subs to pass side and port back. I also had good luck with two subs up, two subs to pass side and ports back. Anyway that's my two cents on sub and port placement and if you have any other questions about your caliber let me know and I might be able to help. Good luck with your build. | |

| My caliber also seems to really like 50-53 htz so that tuning could be something else you could try. | |

| 10 cubes for 4 8's??? I think you'll be winning this bet.
Recommended box is 0.8 cf @ 38 Hz, which seems appropriate.
The Vas = 11.6L, which is pretty stiff for an 8. In theory, you can get more energy out of them with a "free air" box (like 10 cf) ... but in real life, this rarely works.
Port area is also WAY more than necessary. That's 1/2 Sd, for low power woofers.
Since you're running at rated power, I predict that his will be efficient, sound good to the ear... but once it gets into the lanes for a burp, it unloads and bottoms out. Let's hope he tuned low.

| As was stated in another thread, Bassbox Pro isn't the MOST reliable source for SPL predictions, but it supports the "optimal box"
To force a peak at 50-53 Hz, you'll want 4 cf @ 40 Hz or 5 cf @ 50 Hz. Interpolate if a certain size is easy to construct.
Good luck with the contest! | |
