| I've been trying for weeks now to decide which class I want to run for the 2011 season and I just can't make up my mind, so I'd like your opinions.
I played around in sb4 with my suburban at a few shows this year, and now i want to get serious for next year and build my Honda for sb2 or 3. i have an '88 civic hatchback, I'm planning to wall it with 4 10's for sb2, or either 4 12's or 2 15's for sb3. I'm just wondering which class will be more intense this year. looking at the results from finals, sb2 was louder. but I've seen higher scores in the past in sb3. so what class should a newb like me build for this year? if i want to have a chance at finals that is.

| Do SB2. I got 4 10's for you. I used them to win SB2 this year at world finals. They are Atomic APX 10's. I want $250 each plus shipping for them. | |

| lol thats funny you turn this into a for sale post! To the OP though the 2 classes can both be competitive depends on who comes to play in either class, Josh should be back in SB3 this year and there is no telling what Ryan is going to do, I say pick either or to be honest. | |

| neither class if you want a chance to place at world finals you gonna have to work at it bro. bo is a prime example, been on these forums for awhile, ran sb for 2 or 3years? i think this year was his year an next year he is gonna try something new. sb classes are funny the year i went to finals for the first time i was expected to place 5th but ryan, loudest in sb2 at the time, wasn't competeing that year. got a 88 hatch do sb2 4 10's 2 3500's an do work is all i can say. | |

| I think I've decided on sb2 for this year. gonna go with 4 AQ hdc3 10's walled, and run them on 2 aq3500d.1's for now. play around with the box/tuning/etc. then add 2 more amps later when it's time to get serious. | |

| DBmonster,
If you've got a Civic hatchback... why would you wall it with 4 10's?
Those cars work well with big boxes and lots of space around them. I'd rip the seats out and start with a big CRX box (8 cubes) with subs up 8", 2-6" or 4-4" ports back back. Then, shrink the box down slowly, finding the optimal tuning for each box size, until the max dB starts to drop again.
When you find the optimal box volume and tuning, rebuild the box 100% proper, sealed and solid. From there, fiddle with box placement and cabin tweaks.
Hope it helps. Walling is fine when you have a bit more cone area, and I'd hate to see you put in a ton of work, just to get so-so results.

I've been wondering about this, I actually just posted a topic in the general discussion section asking if i should wall or not. now would what you say apply if i decide to run sb3 instead, with 4 12's or 2 15's?

| 4-12's no-wall can get a little hairy in small cars. If the air flow gets restricted on it's way back to the kick panel, you should wall it. With some creative box design and placement a no-wall setup should be feasible. With SB, there's no rule about staying under the window line, so I'd take advantage of that. A full sized box for 4-12's, under the window line would require some serious lube. I thought you "decided on SB2" ... | |
