sundown sa12s ?

Does anyone know anything about these subs? Are they good for spl? Thinking about running 8 of these on 2 stetsoms 7k2d's

mbrooky ran sa-10's whenever his beefy subs needed reconing... Ran each of them with a hefty amount of power, too.

They're solid subs. The power rating is just so Jacob doesn't have to deal with so many warranty issues. 14kW on 8 subs... that's 1800 per... ummm. They'll take it, but they won't like it for too long. Small box theory will be needed to prevent bottoming, even though those woofers have plenty of xmech.

SA's are some of the best mid-power subs around. Sounds good on music, and plenty of xmax for low frequency daily music. If you're smart about what frequencies you play, SA-12's should take an SPL box and 1800wRMS a few times.

Well its gunna be about 75-79 Hz for burps.

->Here's<- a vid of Skip01 doing a 150.4 with 1 sa12 on 2 SAZ-2500Ds. I don't know where his gains were or if he ever clamped to see what he was actually putting to it but it was still working when he got rid of it. Sundown way underrates their stuff. I have 4 of the old 1500rms Nightshade 15s in my truck with a SAZ-3500D at .5Ω on each one and I beat the sh!t out of them. They take it pretty well.

Man its either 8 of these or keep my rds. .... this sport is so frustrating at some points... but well worth it in the end

Keep the RD's there the loudest. Might concider d9's.

So you think 3 15"s rds would be louder then 8 12s ?

I am not sure what you have. But I have seen 3 15's hit 164's

I have the alpha Max's. .. I have 4 total thinking about trading for the sa12s... but Idk yet

4-15s would be (706.5sqin of cone area) 8-12s would be (904.32sqin of cone area) obviously alot of people would lean to using the most cone area they could for various reasons. Kumar and rowland are prime examples of using cone area to the fullest and have done very well doing so. Giving the power your talking about I would lean towards the 12s.

Its actually 3 15"s. ... this is going in my s10.

I'm trying to stay in stock class... I did some measuring and looks like I can fit all 8 below the window line.

It has been tried, but 3-15s or 3-18s has prevailed. Give it a shot. FYI I said 4-15s because 1 you didnt mention the vehicle being used and 2 you said you had 4.

Idk how the hell someone can squeeze 3 18s in there.... I guess ill just stick with my 15s.. trying to get loud.

Where would I find piks of that?? If he wouldn't mind sharing the basic layout to fit them

I had one behind the seat in a 3ft3 box tuned @ about 40hz on an old Planet Audio 225. Flames... Literally caught on fire while sitting at a red light. I never metered it though...

The only thing "wrong" was the box was twice recommended ft3, but I built it to be loud and succeeded very well

ive seen it several times.. never seen them break a 60.. usually high 59s

Never clipped once, not real sure how much power was going to it. The old Planet 225 was and still is a beast, 20watts x2 rms @4ohms. Its illegal to run now unless you run it in unlimited class. I found a spec sheet on it once, don't quote me to it but I believe it put 1200-1800 bridged at .5ohms. You put that power on a 1500 watt sub in a 4ft3 box... Not good, well not to mention I played it pretty hard for about 45mins... Way I see it though; HOLD UP or FOLD UP... Still bad ass subs
I should be some sort of tester, Swear I can tear up anything...

im seeing if i can get some custom made in dual .5s.. i got alot of testing to do for finals.. redoing my rds and been playing with some mmats also...

You scoped it? You just answered why it happened....over double the power in a huge box will cause failure.
