It does have an optical output, just not a regular Toslink one.
Some guys are playing with a Panasonic cable (CA-LRD60 ) to see if it works.
There's also an Alpine cable comming out (KWE-610A), just no release date so far.
Can you notice I also want this HU? LOL.

Jorge.

ok it has optical but it is a proprietory cable that is scheduled for june ( wich means august if we are lucky ), but at least it has it.

from the cost of the cable it looks like it will be a full length not an adaptor. ok unless wiring is already done ( of course it is )

toslink never fit the w200 or w205 very well anyway

Darn Alpine. If they say june it will be out next year. Problem #2 I already have toslink ran form my dash to the 701 in the bed of my truck.

Any word on whether the 505 will control the 701. I wont have room the the RUX when I pull out my D-300.

Yes John, the W505 can fully control the H701.
It has almost the same GUI than the W205 when it comes to the H701.

took a look at the panasonic cable and has the 4 pin set like the back of the w505
hope someone can test it soon.

it is a full length cable though so would have to rerun optical cable

Sure Crush.
A good friend of mine already ordered it and should be testing it pretty soon.
He payed $65 for it.
The Alpine cable is still under development, at least that's what an Alpine rep replied, but I don't think it's going to be cheap at all.
It's still wrong that you have to pay at leas $65 for a cable to connect an Alpine HU to an Alpine processor. And it's even more wrong when they have been using the widely available Toslink for a log time.

Jorge.

So is this new cable toslink on the other end? How will it work with the 701?

Yes, John.
"Propietary" 4 plug on one side, Toslink on the other.
And a $4 dlls cables turns into a $65-$100 dlls one.
Way to go Alpine.
This is the cable my friend ordered but from ebay.

So if you are in a bind about running all new fiber optic a female to female toslink adapter will work with a nice wad of the new cable to stuff some where lol! Tied down every six inches of course. Twisted Evil

Now don't get all lazy and do it the right way, John.
Or I'll tell the judges at Finals.

I'll prolly have the truck apart to run some more center channel wiring. It will be no problem to run the new optic then Wink Just saying.....
