PostSubject: The "right box" for 2 Kicker L7 15s???   Sat Jan 26, 2008 8:51 pm

Everyone swears by the "right box."

Define the right box for 2 L715s. I'm putting the box in the cargo area of the vehicle in my avatar, and have no problem using up that entire area.

With that being said...

Speakers up, ports up?

Sealed?

A box that takes up half that space, positioned all the way to the rear, speakers up, ports forward?

A box that takes up half that space, positioned all the way forward, speakers up, ports back?

Other configurations?

HELP ------ Thanks in advance.

You will be told to test, test and test some more. Box designs are not given out freely. People spend a lot of time working on their boxes and each vehicle will react differently to a point. I've seen ports and subs back get loud. I've seen subs up and ports back get loud. I've seen subs forward ports back get loud. Leave room at the back for air to move out of your ports. And lastly....test, test, test, and test some more. Hope that helps.

Thanks Mike. That's the response I was afraid of getting, though. lol I am like most--a fan of loudness, on a budget, and was hoping to get some insight from one of you more experienced guys before I go through a lot of money on worthless boxes. Again, Thanks.

Are you looking for spl only or daily or a little of both? If you want both, use PNR ports and tape the center piece in and have one set of tubes for daily listening (tuned low) and another set for comps (tuned higher) Keep the box below the window line if you want to stay out of modified. The loudest I've seen that works well for both is subs up ports back. I would use two 4" pnr ports per sub. Being 15" I would guess around 3+ cubic feet per sub, but maybe the kicker guys will help more with this. I've done a few for these subs and will be loading them into an explorer in the next two weeks in a huge box (8 cu ft) I'll try to let you know how that turns out. Right now he is doing 143 db or something with two rockford t2 12's at 32 hz. Hoping it will get louder with the l7 15's.

I've always been into just daily beating, but am interested in the competiton scene. I will debut my system this year at either the Rayne Louisiana show, or Scrapin The Coast in Biloxi Mississippi. I guess it all depends on when I'm "ready." So, I guess you could say I'm looking for both.

Please let me know how that install goes with the Explorer. I have the Mountaineer, which isn't much different than the Explorer, so I'm highly interested in that install.

Thanks again for the input. I'm soaking it all in...believe you me.
