| If you want to pull the woofer apart and take a picture of the coil, we can pretty much guess what the cause of failure was.
Did you change enclosures at all? Bad porting can have a lot to do with woofer failure as well ... all electrical issues asside. _________________ Gabe Sanchez

The l7s box was the same for a year, they failed on the 1 year mark. The DCs happened as rusty stated, coils almost ash and 2 snaped leads. I still have the 2nd woofer which still works . . .sort of. _________________

| Was that with the amp at 1ohm?
Maybe the amp was just consistently sending them a dirty signal til it finally went....splat, not just all of a sudden...prolly was a slow death _________________ Daily DRIVEN 4 12" Type R 500.1(.5ohm) 153@44hz

| lol, the amp was at 2 ohm. The woofers themselves were in bad shape to begin with and were losing air around the "rim" The one that blew sounded like it would have an overexcursion when the volume was up too much. "popping sound" if you will. The rim was warped on that one too. _________________

It is IMPOSSIBLE for a car audio amplifier to product a true "DC" signal. Rather then explain it the science behind that let me just put it like this.
A speaker requires an AC signal to allow a cone to travel out then and backwards. If there was a DC signal the cones would simply push out or backwards and stay there. Even in a fully clipped signal is still AC.
There is a demonstration I can do to prove there is no DC that exists. All that is needed is a light bulb, large capacitor, and an amplifier with signal to it.
Clipping, and over powering take out subs. |
I'm not arguing with you at all as I have zero experience in amplifier design and production but we had a Rockford amp go crazy on us once and when we sent it in for repair they told us it was putting out straight DC.
We checked it on our bench before we sent it in and our test speaker would just go into full excursion and stay there until the amplifier was shut down. Reverse the leads and the speaker would hit the back plate and stay there. No motion back and forth. Based on what I saw and the very little I know about AC and DC current. I found Rockfords evaluation to hold some water.
What else could cause this to happen? _________________ John Roberts

| One time I had a Tsunami 1800D that messed up 4 diff woofers till i figured out it was the amp. Maybe the amp is bad??? _________________ Bret Arceneaux Team S.P.E.A.D 2003 Crew Cab F150 4 9515F's 2 DD M3's Mod 1001-2000 157.3 @ 47HZ SB4 156.0(young jeezy 44hz) |
